Belgian authorities have included 16 website addresses on the nation’s list of prohibited gambling sites.
The Belgian gambling authority has prohibited 16 online casinos that provide games of chance without a permit from the Gaming Commission (CJH).
The list of banned sites was first created in 2012 and currently contains 277 website addresses that have been found to offer games of chance without a permit from the Gaming Commission (CJH).
The 16 websites added to the list on September 15 include Evobet.com, Winorama.com, and Cloudbet.com. Approximately 28 website addresses were added in July and 4 in June.
Individuals who gamble on these websites face legal consequences of up to €25,000, while operators could be fined up to €100,000.
The Gaming Commission stated: “No individual may operate games of chance without prior authorization from the Gaming Commission. No individual may participate in illegal games of chance, nor facilitate their operation or promotion.”
Well-known brands such as Bet365, WilliamHill, Betfair, and Betfred have been included on the CJH list of prohibited sites.
A recent report from the CJH indicated that betting activity in the country increased more than fourfold during the UEFA European Championship 2020 tournament.
The European Championship in 2020 witnessed a dramatic surge in new player sign-ups, reaching a staggering 36,418, a figure exceeding four times the 8,846 registrations recorded in May.
This week, the Belgian Constitutional Court made a significant decision by striking down the nation’s 1999 Gambling Act, which had previously restricted operators from offering diverse gaming options on a single platform. This legislation was largely superseded by a comparable law in 2019, resulting in minimal alterations. The primary change was the confirmation of the vertical separation of online gaming (A+) and online betting (F1+) offerings.
